Colonel David Barron
Retired Colonel in The Gordon Highlanders and battlefield guide
David Barron was born in Hong Kong, the son of an army officer who had served with distinction in Italy during the Second World War, being awarded the Military Cross and bar within a 3-week period during February 1944. David followed his father into the army and was commissioned into The Gordon Highlanders in 1979. He had a long and varied career, retiring as Lt Colonel in 2014. Eschewing more conventional employment he became a battlefield tour guide, initially specialising in school trips to the Western Front. He now guides for the British Army and adult groups and his particular areas of interest include Gallipoli 1915, Sicily 1943 and Italy 1943-44. He now lives in Wiltshire, is married and has 3 grown up children.
