Lt-Gen Sir Barney White-Spunner, KCB, CBE
After graduating from the University of St Andrews, Barney had a distinguished career in the British Army spanning more than thirty years and multiple roles, including command of the Field Army in 2009. He retired in 2011 to pursue passions in both countryside regeneration and military research. His publications include Horse Guards (2006), a military history of the Household Cavalry; Of Living Valour (2015), the story of the soldiers at Waterloo, and Partition: The Story of Indian Independence in 1947 (2017). His most recent work is Berlin: The Story of a City which covers the German capital from its medieval foundation to the present day.
