Maj-Gen Ewan Carmichael, CBE, OStJ, QHDS
Ewan is a graduate of the University of Glasgow, King’s College London and the Army Staff College in Camberley. He began his successful career in the Army in 1980, finally retiring in 2015 as Director General Army Medical Services. Since then, he progressed to become the Chairman of the Society for Army Historical Research. By being based with the British Army of the Rhine in Germany, he was able to indulge in visiting and studying the continental battlefields of the 1700s. This prompted the publication of his recent work Like a Brazen Wall – an in-depth study of the battle of Minden – in 2021. He has also contributed to the National Army Museum’s public programme on the British Army in the 18th century.
