David Andress, Professor of Modern History at Portsmouth University, is one of the world’s leading experts on the French Revolution. Author of the critically-acclaimed study The Terror: civil war in the French Revolution, and editor in 2015 of the prestigious Oxford Handbook of the French Revolution, he has studied the events of this epoch in France, and especially in Paris, for over 30 years. As well as producing cutting-edge historical research, he is widely in demand as an educational speaker, regularly giving talks, addressing literary festivals, and speaking at conferences on four continents.
