Professor John Foot
Professor of Modern Italian History
John Foot is Professor of Modern Italian History in the Department of Italian, University of Bristol. He previously worked in the Italian Department in UCL. He is an expert on twentieth and twenty-first century Italy and has published eight books, most of which have been translated into Italian and some into other languages, as well as numerous articles, edited books and book chapters. He also writes for The Guardian, the LRB and the TLS. His books include Calcio: A History Italian Football (2006), Italy's Divided Memory (2010), The Archipelago. Italy since 1945 (2019) and Blood and Power. The Rise and Fall of Italian Fascism (2022). In 2019 he was awarded the Serena Medal by the British Academy for his 'path-breaking' work in Italian history.
