Sqn Ldr (retd) Jonathan (Jon) Rooke
Retired RAF Squadron-Leader and Military Historian
Jonathan (Jon) Rooke, retired from the Royal Air Force in February 2024 after a 34-year career as a Logistics Officer. During his career he served from Norway to the Falkland Islands and from the Western Coast of America to Brunei. As a Movements Specialist, he has deployed on Operations to Iraq three times, Afghanistan twice as well as to the Balkans with NATO. He has attended Intermediate staff college and served in the NATO Joint Warfare Centre, Stavanger.
During his last six years of service, as the Chief Of Staff, Command Wing, in the Defence School Of Logistics and Administration, he held responsibility for Into Trade Training (ITT) for RAF Logistics Officers and Aviators as well as Officers of the Royal Logistic Corps. Of the circa 300 Junior Logistics Officers in the RAF, he has trained almost 200.
A keen military historian he is in the process of writing his first book, a history of warfare in Normandy. He has delivered Military and Civilian Battlefield Guides and Staff Rides across a variety of topics.
He is a Trustee of the Operation Chariot Memorial Project commemorating the RN and commando raid on St Nazaire and a fundraiser for the Laguna Spitfire Legacy - a project that is looking to restore Spitfire IIb P8331 to flight as a commemoration of the Polish aircrew who flew with the RAF.
