Ray has had a regular and reserves military career spanning over 30 years. He is a member of the International Brigades Memorial Trust, the Battlefield Trust, and the American Civil War Roundtable. A romantic idealist at heart and an amateur historian of military matters Ray is fascinated by the ‘human spirit’ aspects of military history. He has a particular interest in the British Battalion of the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War, the activities of Generals Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War, the Roman Invasion of Britain in 43 AD, and the military career of Major General James Wolfe.
