The Zulu War

Service was Exemplary!

Nothing was too much trouble, well organised from start to finish. Throughout the experience, from booking to arriving back home to the UK, we felt confident that we were in good, safe hands as Cultural Experiences were always on hand to arrange everything for us.

An excellent tour made even better with the injection of Czech history. ++

Austerlitz: Napoleon's Masterpiece

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the local fixer was outstanding - both in terms of keeping on top of the logistics but also sharing her personal experiences of the Czech Republic and the period under Soviet occupation.

Anglo Zulu War trip 2025 +

The Zulu War

The hotel accommodation was overall good to excellent, the only criticism was the flight from London to Johannesburg and the internal flight from Johannesburg to Durban, was too tight time wise, leading to a,stressful dash for the gate, our tour manager Paul Marais did a superb job throughout the trip

They recruited the right people to do an amazing experience ... both Paul Marias and Ian Knight knew their roles well and worked so well as a team ... I felt so relaxed and well educated ... supported when things needed changing ...

Some great locations found which added so much value to the whole story ... and the guys were so approachable all day ... so we had a chance to talk about all that we viewed, yep they clarified the bits which were a little fuzzy ...

The tour itinerary was excellent. I have been an Anglo-Zulu War buff for about 50 years, so it was great to visit the battlefields that I had read about for so long. The tour itinerary was excellent. I have been an Anglo-Zulu War buff for about 50 years, so it was great to visit the battlefields that I had read about for so long. It was a privilege to have Ian leading the tour, superlatives are wasted trying to describe his knowledge and delivery. It was fantastic. The accommodation and catering arrangements were also excellent and a big thank you to Paul, our tour manager for keeping us all on track.

My only criticism is the time we had between landing in Johannesburg and our flight to Durban. At 90 minutes it was too short and we nearly missed our connecting flight, with 6 out of the 15 of the group having their luggage left behind at Johannesburg, although to be fair they got it back that evening. In my view, there should be around 3 or 4 hours between the flights.

Excellent throughout. TCE made a huge effort with this trip and participants gained much from it in understanding the Romans in North Africa and those who went before them (and after, right up to Algeria of the present). I took the opportunity to take photos on my phone at the many sites even though I don't normally.....there was so much to see and make a record of. I also have a written record through taking notes of the details and history of the many sites visited. On our final day in the field, I appreciated seeing something of the Sahara from its northern fringes, including impressive gorges and nearby mountains. We even saw a few camels too!
