We look at the 19th century rise and fall of the Maratha Empire as it challenged that of Mughals only to be thwarted by the British. We explore a wealth of stunningly located fortresses, palaces, temples and battlefields in the modern-day states of Maharashtra, Uttar and Madhya Pradesh.
