b'THE GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN Scan here for the full DAMN THE DARDANELLES: THIS WILL BE OUR GRAVE itinerary29 April7 May 2026 Historical Background9 days Gallipoli was the scene of one of the great Allied failures of the First Expert Historian: World War. In attempting to take Turkey out of the war, the assault on Dr Bruce Cherry the Dardanelles ended in disastrous failure following a campaign that lasted from April 1915 to January 1916. The campaign saw some thirteen Activity Level: 2 British and Empire divisions involved in a struggle against twenty Turkish divisions, with a total cost of 500,000 casualties.During this wonderful tour to Turkey we will visit and examine the main aspects of the Gallipoli campaign: the naval assault, the problems of landing against defended beaches at Cape Helles, the command, control and communication issues, the miracle that was ANZAC, the Turkish perspective, the conditions at Gallipoli, the Suvla Bay fiasco and discuss whether it was all worthwhile. All this is set against the exotic backdrop of Turkish history, culture, scenic beauty and cuisine - all of which we will have ample opportunity to explore. We will also soak up the culture with visits to the ruins of legendary Troy and a full day exploring the beguiling and bustling city of Istanbul, the crossroads of Europe and Asia.Day 1Arrival Fly London to Istanbul or join tour in Istanbul Central Istanbulhotel2 nights Pre-dinner drinks and introductory talk (D)Day 2 Sultanahmet Haghia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar (B,L,D)Day 3 Canakkale Istanbul Military Museum Afternoon drive to Canakkale Hotel6 nights (B,L,D)Day 4 Naval and Amphibious Operations View Turkish coastal defences fromKilitbahir, Turkish memorial, French-held sector, 25th April landing pointsS, V, W, X and Y Beaches, SS Clyde landings at V Beach, six VCs before breakfast, Helles Memorial for the Missing (B,L,D)Day 5 ANZAC Gaba Tepe Museum, Anzac Cove, Plugges Plateau (view Razor Back, Shrapnel Valley and Lone Pine Ridge), Johnstones Jolly and Quinns Post Sari Bair, Walkers Ridge, Hill Q, the Nek Dinner at own expense (B,L)Day 6Kumkale and Troy Kumkale, Troy (B,L,D)Day 7 Helles Peninsula Gully Ravine, the Vineyard, Bigali and Ataturk museum,ESSENTIALSEphez museum and Turkish gun positions (B,L,D)4-star hotels, meals as indicated,Day 8Suvla Bay, Nibrunesi Point, Lala Baba or Kiretch Tepe, follow break out at Hilldrinks with dinner, all entrance fees, 10, Chocolate Hill and Green Hill, and Scimitar Hill and Hill 60 Bykanafartatour manager and expert historian museum, Suvla Bay evacuation (B,L,D)throughout, all internal travel,Day 9Drive to Istanbul for flight to London or perhaps extend stay in Turkey (B)optional travel from UK.505926 TCE BROCHURE 2025-26_Aug25.indd 50 22/08/2025 13:35'
